Family Therapy

No family is without conflict or growing pains. Families are complex and dynamic systems and some amount of conflict is typical and expected. Families sometimes seek the help of a professional when the problem solving strategies they’ve relied on in the past are falling short or when they feel ill equipped for the gravity of the situation at hand. More recently, family members have been attending therapy together to examine their relationship, explore past difficulties, and build stronger bonds.

Therapy can help families understand how each member is contributing to the problem at hand and why efforts to change or fix the problem have failed. It can provide families with communication tools to help members feel heard and understood, increasing their sense of belonging within the system.

Family Therapy might be right for you and your family if:

  • Despite efforts, one or more members are feeling isolated and disconnected from the family, or are withdrawing from the family

  • There is a breakdown of communication - either frequent arguing or stonewalling

  • The family has gone through a difficult or traumatic experience and is having difficulty coping

  • The family is having difficulty adjusting to a change or transition

  • The family anticipates a big transition and wants coping skills to prepare

  • You want to build a stronger relationship with one or more family members
