Self Care in NYC
Self Care involves taking time to do things that improve our physical and mental health. This includes rest and relaxation, but also includes connecting with others socially, helping others, having fun, being creative, and regular exercise. Below are some of my favorite free/low cost self care activities in NYC.
NYC free (or pay what you wish) Museums
Visiting museums and galleries can benefit mental health. Many in NYC offer free or pay what you wish admissions. Learn More.
Prospect Park Alliance
Volunteer with the Prospect Park Alliance April - November to help keep the park green and vibrant. This self care activity combines caring for our community while spending time in outdoors. Learn More.
Songwriter Showcase
Singing, playing and instrument, and engaging in creativity have all been shown to improve well being. This open mic also offers the opportunity to connect with other local songwriters. Bonus points for facing your stage fright. Hosted the first Wednesday of every month @ 7:30pm at DIVE 106 (106 & Amsterdam). Learn More.

Helping others often helps us feel better. Volunteering with NYC Cares is a great way to support our community while also benefiting our mental health. Learn More.
Acting Circle
This adult acting group is hosted online through NYPL and includes improv and cold reads. This can be a great way to add creativity to your routine while stepping outside your comfort zone. Learn More.
GO TO THE MAT WITH US!
Free in person yoga at Holy Trinity every Tuesday 12:30-1:30pm. Donations benefit the Holy Trinity Neighborhood Center. Learn more
City Girls Who Walk
Every Sunday at 12pm hundreds of women meet at CPW & 72 to connect and walk (most show up alone). This is a three for one combining exercise, social connection, and time outdoors! Learn More.
Central Park Gardens
Volunteer with Central Park Gardens. Volunteer Sessions are held every other Sunday all year long. No experience necessary! Learn More.
Central Park Conservancy
The Central park Conservancy cares for the entirety of Central Park and relies on thousands of volunteers. Scheduling is flexible and opportunities include joining seasonal teams, Saturday landscaping, and family volunteer days. Learn More.
Shape Up NYC
Physical exercise can improve your mood and decrease symptoms of depression. Bonus points if that exercise is social. Shape Up NYC offers free group exercise classes across the five boroughs. Learn More.
